Storytelling is an ancient and honorable act.  An essential role to play in the community of tribe.

– Russell Banks

Jackson Storyfest is made possible only by the generosity of individuals, businesses and organizations through their gifts of time and money.  You can be a part of this Jackson tradition  by:

The Gift of Time

  • Serve on the Board of Directors

The Board meets 3 times a year reviewing and guiding the Planning Committee

  • Serve on the Planning Committee

ThePlanning Committee meets monthly, Sept. through May.  This group attends to the details of the event like hiring storytellers, securing storytelling sites, publicity, advertising, coordinating volunteers, hospitality, fund raising, registration, and more.

  • Serve at the storytelling sessions

Nearly 70 volunteers are needed to help over 5000 students attended at least 2 storytelling sessions throughout downtown Jackson.  These volunteers work only on Friday beginning at 8:45am and are done around noon.

To be a part of this volunteer force, please call Sara Tackett at:  517-499-2290 or email jacksonstoryfest@gmail.com

The Gift of Money

We are proud to be one of the few storytelling festivals in the nation to offer this ancient art absolutely free of charge.  The only way we are able to do this is through the generous support of people like you.   In addition to more than 1200 volunteer hours it still costs an average of nearly $25,000 each year to bring nationally recognized tellers to Jackson so they might share their craft with our children and our community.

Despite difficult economic times, many individuals, businesses and organizations have come to realize the value of the art of storytelling.  With your help, we can continue this Jackson tradition.
